Seabourn Unveils Ambitious Pole-To-Pole Expedition Program For 2028

Seabourn Strengthens Focus On Expedition Cruising

Luxury cruise line Seabourn says expedition cruising will play an increasingly important role in its future strategy as demand grows for immersive and once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences.

According to Senior Director Sales Alex Pikardt, travelers are increasingly looking for deeper exploration and more meaningful journeys, particularly in remote destinations that combine adventure with high-end luxury.

The company’s newly released 2028-2029 expedition program reflects that shift, with a strong focus on Arctic exploration during Seabourn’s 40th anniversary year.

Arctic Voyages Become Major Priority

The new expedition season includes sailings across Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland and Arctic Canada, with itineraries designed to highlight some of the most remote landscapes in the Northern Hemisphere.

Among the featured experiences are voyages through Greenland’s dramatic fjords, explorations of Baffin Island and the Torngat Mountains, as well as a return to Svalbard’s glacier-lined coastlines.

The itineraries are designed to combine luxury travel with hands-on exploration, offering guests opportunities for Zodiac excursions, guided shore landings, kayaking adventures and educational programs led by dedicated expedition teams.

Return Of The Pole-To-Pole Grand Expedition

A major highlight of the new program is the return of Seabourn’s Grand Expedition: Pole to Pole itinerary.

The 96-day voyage is scheduled to depart Reykjavik on August 17, 2028, before traveling more than 20,500 nautical miles to Ushuaia at the southern tip of South America.

The route crosses 147 degrees of latitude and links Arctic exploration with Antarctica in one extended expedition journey.

Seabourn is also introducing a shorter 82-day version of the itinerary in an effort to broaden the appeal of the experience to more travelers.

Luxury Experience Remains Central To Strategy

While the destinations themselves are a major attraction, Seabourn believes the onboard experience remains equally important in defining its position within the growing expedition market.

The cruise line continues to emphasize smaller luxury vessels, personalized service and high-end accommodations as part of its “clear point of difference” within the increasingly competitive expedition cruise sector.

Industry demand for premium adventure travel has surged in recent years, particularly among travelers seeking remote destinations paired with luxury hospitality and expert-led experiences.
