IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a new partnership with FUJI KYUKO Co., Ltd to transform the iconic Hotel Mount Fuji into the third Vignette Collection property in Japan.
The historic hotel, originally opened in 1963, will undergo a major renovation before reopening as Hotel Mount Fuji, Vignette Collection.
Located atop Mount Odeyama at an elevation of 1,100 metres, the 150-room property overlooks Lake Yamanaka and offers panoramic views of Mount Fuji.
Historic Hotel Enters New Luxury Chapter
Hotel Mount Fuji has long been recognised as one of Japan’s most distinctive mountain resorts and was originally developed as a destination specifically designed for viewing Mount Fuji.
IHG said the conversion marks an important step in expanding its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio across Japan.
Once reopened, the property will join other Vignette Collection hotels in Japan including RIGHA Royal Hotel Osaka and The Windsor Hotel TOYA.
The Vignette Collection brand currently includes more than 79 open and pipeline hotels globally.
Focus On Nature, Wellness And Cultural Experiences
Guests at Hotel Mount Fuji, Vignette Collection will have access to a range of wellness and leisure facilities including hot springs, a sauna, swimming pool and multiple dining venues.
The property also provides direct access to the Fuji Five Lakes region, one of Japan’s most popular natural tourism destinations.
Activities nearby include golf, lake cruises and visits to attractions such as Oshino Hakkai, part of the Mount Fuji World Heritage area.
The elevated location also allows visitors to experience seasonal natural phenomena including the famous “sea of clouds,” where dense fog creates the illusion of the hotel floating above the landscape.
Luxury Expansion Continues Across Japan
Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director for Japan and Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, described the hotel as a one-of-a-kind destination combining history, scenery and luxury hospitality.
He said the partnership would allow IHG to introduce the property to a broader international audience through its global network and IHG One Rewards loyalty programme.
FUJI KYUKO Co., Ltd President Koichiro Horiuchi said the redevelopment would preserve the hotel’s heritage while opening a new chapter for the iconic property.
Accessible From Tokyo
Hotel Mount Fuji, Vignette Collection will remain easily accessible from Tokyo, approximately two hours away by car.
Guests will also be able to reach the resort by express bus from Shinjuku, with shuttle transfers available from the local transport hub.
