Saudi Arabia Opens Visa-Free Entry to Russian Travelers Starting May 11

Citizens of Russia will be able to travel to Saudi Arabia without a visa starting May 11, 2026, following the entry into force of a bilateral agreement aimed at boosting tourism and business ties between the two countries.

The deal, signed in late 2025, allows Russian travelers to enter Saudi Arabia for short stays of up to 90 days per year without requiring a visa. The same conditions apply to Saudi citizens visiting Russia, making the arrangement fully reciprocal.

The move marks a significant shift in travel policy, as Saudi Arabia continues to open its borders to international visitors as part of a broader strategy to diversify its economy and expand its tourism sector.

Under the agreement, visa-free access applies to tourism, business trips and private visits. However, travelers intending to work, study or reside long-term in Saudi Arabia will still need to obtain the appropriate visas. The exemption also does not cover religious pilgrimages such as Hajj, which remain subject to separate entry requirements.

Industry observers say the new regime is expected to drive a sharp increase in travel flows between the two countries. Saudi Arabia has been actively positioning itself as a global tourism destination, investing heavily in infrastructure, hospitality and international connectivity.

For Russian travelers, the agreement opens easier access to destinations such as Riyadh and Jeddah, as well as the Red Sea coast, which has become a focal point for luxury tourism development.

Airlines are also likely to benefit from the change, with increased demand expected on routes connecting Russian cities with Saudi hubs. The agreement could further strengthen economic and cultural ties, while positioning both countries to capture a larger share of international travel flows.

The introduction of visa-free travel reflects a broader trend across the region, as governments seek to reduce barriers to entry and stimulate tourism growth in an increasingly competitive global market.
