Lufthansa Technik And BMW Designworks Unveil “The Bow” VIP Cabin Concept At AIX

At this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Lufthansa Technik is presenting a bold rethinking of private aviation. Developed in collaboration with Designworks, “The BOW” introduces a modular narrowbody cabin concept that shifts the focus from individual luxury to shared, high-end travel experiences.

The concept targets a growing segment in aviation: executive teams, professional sports squads, and touring artists seeking flexibility without sacrificing exclusivity. By combining Lufthansa Technik’s engineering expertise with Designworks’ background in automotive and luxury product design, the project positions itself as a forward-looking platform rather than a fixed cabin layout.

A Flexible Platform For Custom VIP Travel

At its core, “The BOW” is designed as a modular system that allows operators to configure the aircraft interior according to mission needs. Cabin layouts, suite arrangements, and functional zones can be adjusted – offering a high degree of customization.

Operators can prioritize open social areas, expand meeting zones, or increase privacy by adjusting the number and configuration of suites. The aircraft can accommodate up to 28 passengers while maintaining a premium, spacious feel.

This adaptability reflects a broader trend in private aviation, where versatility and personalization are becoming as important as traditional luxury markers.

Designed For Shared Exclusivity

Unlike traditional VIP cabins centered around a single principal passenger, “The BOW” is built for groups. Each private suite accommodates one or two travelers and supports multiple use cases, from confidential meetings to shared dining.

Movable partitions allow the cabin to transition between private and open configurations. Individual suites can be fully enclosed, while selected sections feature automated elements that adjust privacy levels dynamically.

Dedicated storage solutions are integrated into each suite, addressing the practical needs of passengers traveling with specialized equipment – from musical instruments to professional gear.

A Cabin Structured Around Experience

The interior is organized into distinct zones, each designed with a specific purpose and atmosphere.

The reception and lobby area introduces passengers to the cabin with curved architectural forms, premium materials, and a hospitality-focused bar. Interactive elements such as gradient screens and foldable service tables emphasize both functionality and design sophistication.

At the center of the aircraft, a transformative lounge serves as a multifunctional hub. Equipped with curved touchscreen displays and a modular presentation table, the space can shift from a collaborative workspace to a dining environment. Lufthansa Technik’s Hidden Touch technology enables controls to disappear seamlessly into surfaces, maintaining a clean, high-end aesthetic.

Private suites follow the “BOW Suite” design language, characterized by soft forms and premium finishes. Features such as acoustic shielding, mood lighting, and scent integration contribute to a controlled, comfortable environment tailored to passenger preferences.

Technology Integrated Into Every Surface

A key differentiator of “The BOW” lies in its deep integration of cabin technology. Lufthansa Technik’s “nice” – network integrated cabin equipment – system connects lighting, climate, seating, and entertainment into a unified interface.

Passengers interact with the system through embedded touchpoints, including inductive charging surfaces, OLED displays, and next-generation control panels. The “nice intellitable” merges touchscreen functionality directly into a folding table, blending digital interaction with tactile materials.

The cabin also incorporates advanced audio through Omni-Fi speakers, designed for immersive, omnidirectional sound while maintaining a minimal physical footprint.

A Glimpse Into The Future Of VIP Aviation

According to Fabian Nagel, Vice President Sales VIP & Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik, the concept represents a shift toward group-centric luxury travel. By offering a highly configurable environment combined with integrated technologies, “The BOW” aims to deliver both operational flexibility and a cohesive premium experience.

More than a single product, the concept acts as a demonstrator for Lufthansa Technik’s broader portfolio, allowing customers to experience multiple technologies within one unified cabin design.

“The BOW” is being showcased at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg from April 14 to 16, where industry stakeholders are getting a firsthand look at what could define the next era of VIP group travel.
