Latvian carrier airBaltic has launched a new direct service connecting its seasonal base in Gran Canaria (Spain) with Ljubljana (Slovenia), further strengthening its European winter network.
The inaugural flight took off on October 31, 2025, and will operate weekly on Fridays until early April 2026, with a flight time of approximately five hours. The new route becomes part of airBaltic’s expanding winter schedule, which now includes seven direct routes from Gran Canaria to destinations across the Baltics, Scandinavia, and Central Europe.
According to Mantas Vrubliauskas, VP Network Management at airBaltic, the new connection aims to boost tourism and offer convenient travel options for both leisure and business passengers.
“The new route between the two cities is expected to attract more tourists from Slovenia to Gran Canaria during the colder months, when travellers in Central Europe are seeking sunny and warm destinations, while also providing residents of Gran Canaria the opportunity to explore Ljubljana, famous for its beautiful old town and lively atmosphere,” Vrubliauskas said.
“We are grateful to our partners in Gran Canaria for supporting this expansion, which improves the island’s connectivity to a variety of destinations in Europe.”
The flights are operated by Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which offer a modern and comfortable experience, including wider seats, larger windows, and more cabin luggage space. airBaltic is also the first European airline to equip its fleet with free high-speed SpaceX Starlink internet, offering passengers seamless onboard connectivity.
During the 2025/2026 winter season, airBaltic will serve the following destinations from Gran Canaria:
Billund (Denmark)
Ljubljana (Slovenia)
Molde (Norway)
Oslo Torp (Norway)
Riga (Latvia)
Tallinn (Estonia)
Vilnius (Lithuania)
The expanded network further enhances Gran Canaria’s role as a winter hub, connecting sun-seeking travellers from across northern and central Europe while contributing to the island’s tourism economy.
