Corendon, one of Europe’s leading tour operators and leisure airlines, is preparing for a significant expansion in Germany, announcing plans to strengthen its operations at Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports beginning in 2026. The move will establish Düsseldorf as the company’s largest departure airport, a strategic step reflecting strong traveler demand across Northern Europe. Corendon expects to carry more than 1.2 million passengers annually through the two hubs, connecting holidaymakers to popular Mediterranean destinations.
Düsseldorf as the New Core Hub
Düsseldorf has seen remarkable growth in recent years, with Corendon passenger volumes from the airport climbing by 40 percent over the past five years. The airport’s proximity to Dutch and Belgian source markets, combined with competitive fares and efficient operations, has made it increasingly attractive for travelers seeking affordable leisure travel. By making Düsseldorf its largest departure point, Corendon aligns its network with evolving demand while enhancing its market share in a region defined by cross-border tourism flows.
Cologne/Bonn’s Complementary Role
Alongside Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn Airport will provide additional capacity, focusing on travelers from Germany and Belgium. Known for its ability to support both passenger and cargo operations, the airport is well-positioned to complement Corendon’s growth strategy. Starting April 2026, the airline will introduce a new portfolio of flights to Turkey, Egypt, and Greece—destinations that remain in high demand for their mix of sunshine, culture, and heritage.
The expanded German network will not only strengthen Corendon’s position in the European leisure market but also stimulate tourism flows across the Mediterranean. By adding capacity at two of Germany’s busiest gateways, the airline supports broader economic benefits, from hotel stays and dining to local excursions, reinforcing the importance of low-cost leisure carriers in shaping regional travel patterns.
