United Airlines is expanding its winter schedule starting January 6, 2025, with new and additional flights to 15 cities across the U.S. and Central America. The move is designed to give travelers more options—and to absorb potential disruption in the market.
Key Additions to the Schedule
Extra daily roundtrip flights will connect:
Houston with Orlando, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Miami
Chicago with Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans, and Las Vegas
Newark/New York with Orlando and Fort Lauderdale
Los Angeles with Las Vegas
Two new routes from Newark/New York to Columbia, South Carolina, and Chattanooga, Tennessee
Expanded Central America service from Houston:
Three weekly flights to Guatemala City and San Salvador
One weekly flight to San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Larger aircraft on the Chicago–New York LaGuardia route
More frequency between Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles
With these additions, United will offer 45 flights per day to Orlando, 30 to Fort Lauderdale, and 43 to Las Vegas this winter.
A Strategic Move
Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, explained the strategy:
“If Spirit suddenly goes out of business it will be incredibly disruptive, so we’re adding these flights to give their customers other options if they want or need them.”
United’s Growing Network
United is the largest airline in the world, connecting passengers to more than 360 destinations globally, including 75 cities served by no other U.S. carrier. In the U.S. alone, the airline flies to more than 225 cities and operates over 4,000 domestic flights daily.
By ramping up capacity to popular leisure destinations like Florida and Las Vegas, and strengthening routes to Central America, United aims to position itself as the go-to option for winter travelers—whether for sun, adventure, or international connections.
