SalamAir Introduces A321neo ‘Muttrah’ Ahead of Peak Travel Season

SalamAir, Oman’s fast-growing low-cost airline, has officially welcomed the newest addition to its fleet: an Airbus A321neo named “Muttrah”, chosen by passengers through a community Instagram vote. This delivery brings SalamAir’s fleet to 14 aircraft and marks a strategic step forward in fleet modernization, operational efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Community-Driven, Passenger-Focused

In a move that reflects the airline’s commitment to its passengers, the name “Muttrah” was selected via an interactive social media campaign, strengthening SalamAir’s brand as one that values its growing community of travellers. The aircraft arrives just ahead of the busy travel season, positioning the airline to meet demand with enhanced schedule reliability and improved on-time performance.

“This aircraft marks a key milestone in boosting our operational capability,” said Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir. “It enhances flexibility across our network, improves efficiency, and raises the standard of comfort and sustainability we offer our guests.”

A Step Forward in Sustainability

Powered by next-generation CFM LEAP-1A engines, the A321neo delivers notable environmental benefits:

  • 20% less fuel burn per seat

  • 50% reduction in NOx emissions

  • Over 15 decibels quieter than ICAO noise standards

This aligns with SalamAir’s commitment to sustainable operations and future-focused aviation strategy.

Enhanced Passenger Experience and Route Potential

The A321neo’s 212-seat configuration features:

  • USB charging ports at every seat

  • A refreshed modern cabin interior

  • Extended range of up to 4,000 nautical miles, allowing expansion into medium- and long-haul markets

This increased range and comfort offer SalamAir the flexibility to explore new international routes and increase frequencies on popular regional sectors.

A Younger, More Capable Fleet

With another new aircraft expected later this month, SalamAir’s average fleet age will drop from 5.6 to 4.8 years, making it one of the youngest fleets in the region.

“This is more than a fleet upgrade,” added Hamilton-Manns. “It’s a reflection of our larger strategy to invest in fleet capability, broaden our network, and continue delivering affordable, efficient, and reliable air travel experiences.”
