New Hilton hotel debuts in Northern Ireland with the opening of The Marcus Portrush, a Tapestry Collection property that marks the brand’s first venture into the region. Located along the rugged North Atlantic coastline, the hotel is set within a meticulously restored Victorian building that has stood in Portrush for over 85 years.
The Marcus Portrush offers 80 guest rooms and blends timeless architectural elements with modern comforts. The building, which operated as a hotel and artisan bakery from 1895 until the 1980s, has undergone a £11 million ($15.08 million) renovation. Hilton has preserved original design features such as mosaic floor tiles and vintage signage, maintaining a strong connection to the structure’s historic character.
This opening is more than just a nod to the past—it is also a strategic play for the future. The hotel’s debut is perfectly timed to coincide with the 153rd Open Championship, scheduled for 13–20 July 2025 at the nearby Royal Portrush Golf Club. This marks the tournament’s first return to Northern Ireland since 2019 and is expected to draw international attention and tourism.
Portrush, a seaside town known for its dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches, and proximity to the UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway, is an increasingly attractive destination. Hilton’s entry into the market is expected to strengthen local tourism infrastructure and cater to both leisure travelers and golf fans arriving for the championship.
In addition to enriching Portrush’s hospitality offerings, the hotel is projected to contribute significantly to the local economy. Hilton estimates more than £1.1 million in annual visitor spending and the creation of over 40 permanent jobs in the community.
The Marcus Portrush reflects Hilton’s ongoing commitment to expanding its presence in locations with rich cultural heritage and high tourism potential. As part of the Tapestry Collection, the hotel joins a portfolio of properties that prioritize individuality and storytelling, making each stay unique.
