Turkish Airlines is gearing up for a significant fleet expansion, expecting to operate around 530 aircraft by 2025 despite facing delivery delays and engine-related challenges with Pratt & Whitney’s geared turbofan (GTF) engines. CFO Murat Seker shared this growth trajectory during the airline’s Q3 financial results call.

Currently operating a fleet of 474 aircraft, Turkish Airlines anticipates increasing this number to 493 by the end of 2024. Seker noted that the projected fleet size of 530 aircraft by 2025 represents a 7% to 8% increase and will include a blend of narrowbody and widebody aircraft to support both its mainline services and low-cost subsidiary AJet, as well as its cargo operations.

“This growth projection gives us more visibility now, especially since the Boeing strike has ended,” Seker said. “Boeing informed us today that we will soon receive an update on the delivery schedule.” While global supply chain disruptions have led to delays in new aircraft deliveries, Seker expressed optimism that recent developments with Boeing will help alleviate these issues.

The expansion reflects Turkish Airlines’ ongoing commitment to expanding its route network and service offerings, positioning itself as a major player in the global aviation industry despite current challenges.
