Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports have formed a strategic partnership to manage Moscow Domodedovo Airport, combining their operational expertise and resources to improve the airport’s financial performance, operational efficiency and service quality.
The alliance is intended to consolidate management practices, production technologies and operational experience while supporting airlines, passengers and business partners at one of Russia’s largest airports.
Vnukovo Acquires 25% Stake
Domodedovo Airport is currently owned through Perspektiva LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sheremetyevo Airport.
Under the agreement, Vnukovo Airport will invest RUB 16.5 billion (approximately USD 210 million) into Perspektiva’s share capital, acquiring a 25.01% stake in the company.
The transaction establishes Vnukovo as Sheremetyevo’s strategic partner in overseeing the future management and development of Domodedovo Airport.
Sheremetyevo Details Acquisition Costs
Sheremetyevo CEO Mikhail Vasilenko said the partnership represents a carefully considered step in the airport’s long-term plan to restore the financial and operational stability of Domodedovo.
According to Vasilenko, Sheremetyevo acquired Domodedovo for an effective value of RUB 141 billion, including RUB 66 billion paid through the acquisition process and approximately RUB 75 billion in debt obligations inherited from the airport.
He described Domodedovo as a complex asset facing significant financial challenges, high debt levels and operational risks following an extensive review of its infrastructure, corporate governance, financial management, safety systems and IT operations.
Focus on Operational Efficiency
The two airport operators plan to work together on restructuring the organisation, implementing import-substitution technologies, creating a unified budget, reducing operating costs and improving EBITDA.
The partnership also aims to stabilise Domodedovo’s production and financial performance while enhancing services for airlines and commercial partners.
Sharing Operational Expertise
Vnukovo Chairman Vitaly Vantsev said the cooperation is intended to improve the overall efficiency of the Moscow Aviation Hub by leveraging the strengths of both airports.
He noted that Vnukovo and Domodedovo have similar passenger volumes and airport infrastructure, creating opportunities to share expertise in aircraft maintenance, cargo operations, catering services and baggage handling systems.
Officials from both airports said the collaboration is expected to strengthen operational performance while maintaining high service standards for passengers and airline customers.
