Copenhagen Airport welcomed 3.17 million passengers in June, making it the busiest June in the airport’s history as the summer travel season gathered momentum.
The airport handled 46,000 more passengers than in June 2025, while also setting a new single-day passenger record on 7 June, when 121,722 travelers passed through its terminals.
Record-Breaking Start to Summer
“Summer is our peak season, and the first month of this year’s summer period set several records. We have had the busiest June in the airport’s history, and on 7 June we recorded the highest number of passengers ever on a single day,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer at Copenhagen Airport.
The previous daily record, set in 2025, stood at 119,127 passengers. According to current forecasts, the airport expects 19 July to become the busiest travel day of the summer, with approximately 124,000 passengers.
Southern Europe Remains the Top Holiday Choice
Southern European destinations continued to dominate holiday travel from Copenhagen.
Spain was the most popular destination in June with 252,000 passengers, followed by Italy with 220,000 travelers and France with 159,000. Together, the three countries recorded passenger growth of 5% compared with June last year.
Among charter destinations, Greece remained the clear favorite, with Crete and Rhodes attracting the highest number of holidaymakers. Charter flights account for approximately 5% of all passengers traveling through Copenhagen Airport.
London Leads Individual Destinations
Among individual destinations, London remained Copenhagen Airport’s busiest route in June despite a 4.6% year-on-year decline, handling 157,325 passengers.
Stockholm ranked second with 147,433 passengers, followed by Oslo (141,782), Amsterdam (100,664), Paris (99,778), Helsinki (74,115), Aalborg (68,826), Istanbul (64,720), Malaga (62,027), and Milan (61,315).
Malaga recorded the strongest monthly growth among the top ten destinations, with passenger numbers increasing 9.7% compared with June 2025, while Istanbul grew by 6.9%.
Asia Traffic Continues to Expand
European routes remained the airport’s core market, with 2.8 million passengers traveling within Europe during June, broadly matching last year’s performance.
However, the fastest-growing region was Asia, where passenger traffic surged by 52% year over year. The increase was driven by additional flight frequencies and new services to destinations including Seoul and Ho Chi Minh City.
Despite the record June performance, Copenhagen Airport noted that overall traffic was slightly below expectations as some airlines reduced flight frequencies in response to higher fuel costs.
Year-to-Date Growth
Several destinations posted strong growth during the first half of 2026. Aalborg recorded the highest increase among the airport’s top ten destinations, with passenger traffic up 17.6% year to date, followed by Malaga (+14.1%), Oslo (+13.4%), Helsinki (+9.7%), Istanbul (+9.5%), and Stockholm (+8.8%).
These figures highlight continued demand for both leisure and business travel as Copenhagen Airport enters its busiest period of the year.
