Flight Disruptions In Moscow Affect Around 8,000 Package Tourists

Approximately 8,000 organized tourists have been affected by widespread flight delays and cancellations in Moscow, prompting tour operators to arrange alternative flights, extend hotel stays and assist travelers stranded abroad.

According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), the disruption impacted both outbound holidaymakers departing from Moscow and travelers attempting to return to Russia from overseas destinations.

The situation follows extensive operational restrictions at all four of Moscow’s major airports, causing significant disruption across the country’s aviation network.

Popular Holiday Destinations Affected

Among the disrupted services were flights to some of the most popular international leisure destinations for Russian travelers, including resorts in Turkey and Egypt.

The delays and cancellations affected both package holiday customers and independent travelers, creating uncertainty for thousands of passengers during the peak summer travel season.

Tour operators have been working with airlines and hotel partners to minimize the impact on customers and secure alternative travel arrangements wherever possible.

Tour Operators Rebooking Flights

ATOR said travel companies are actively reissuing tickets for clients whose flights were cancelled and are closely monitoring all cases involving tourists affected by the disruption.

Special attention is being given to travelers who remain overseas due to delayed or cancelled return flights from Russia.

Industry representatives said that each case is being handled individually depending on the passenger’s location, travel plans and available flight options.

Extended Hotel Stays For Some Travelers

For tourists who had not yet departed for the airport before receiving cancellation notices, operators have been attempting to extend hotel reservations where possible.

These arrangements are intended to reduce inconvenience and prevent travelers from being left without accommodation while awaiting new departure dates.

Passengers already abroad and waiting for return flights are also receiving support through travel providers and airline partners.

Airlines Responsible For Passenger Assistance

Under passenger rights obligations, travelers stranded at overseas airports due to delayed or cancelled flights should be provided with meals and assistance by their airline.

Tour operators have urged customers to remain in contact with both airlines and travel companies for updated information regarding flight schedules and alternative arrangements.

Many travelers have faced extended waiting times as airlines work through significant operational backlogs caused by the disruptions.

Sheremetyevo Faces The Greatest Impact

The most severe disruption occurred at Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow’s largest airport, where more than 250 flights were delayed or cancelled.

Temporary restrictions were introduced at all four of the capital’s airports on Thursday before being lifted around midday. However, the effects continued to ripple through airline schedules long after operations resumed.

With thousands of passengers affected and recovery efforts ongoing, airlines and tour operators continue working to restore normal operations and minimize further disruption during one of the busiest periods of the travel year.
