Finnair To Restore Flights Between Helsinki, Tampere And Turku In 2026

Finnair will restore scheduled flights to Tampere and Turku from October 2026, bringing both Finnish cities back into the airline’s network after several years of relying on bus connections.

The move will provide passengers with direct access to Finnair’s global route network through Helsinki, where the airline serves around 90 destinations across Europe, 11 destinations in Asia, seven destinations in North America and one destination in Australia.

According to Finnair, the decision follows ongoing discussions with regional stakeholders as both Tampere and Turku continue to grow as business and leisure destinations.

“Tampere and Turku are rapidly growing cities, and we have conducted a continuous dialogue with the regions about the possibilities of providing smoother connections to the world,” said Finnair President and CEO Turkka Kuusisto.

The new schedule will include one daily overnight flight from both Tampere and Turku to Helsinki. These services are designed to connect travellers with Finnair’s morning departures across Europe and provide convenient evening return options through the airline’s Helsinki hub.

In addition to the overnight services, Finnair will introduce daytime connections that integrate the two cities into its domestic and regional network. A flight from Oulu to Helsinki will stop in Tampere before continuing to the Finnish capital, while a service from Stockholm to Helsinki will include a stop in Turku.

The routes will be operated using ATR turboprop aircraft with between 68 and 70 seats, providing capacity suited to regional demand while maintaining connectivity with the airline’s wider international network.

Finnair previously replaced flights to Tampere and Turku with ground transportation services between 2022 and 2023. Under the new arrangement, daytime bus connections will remain available, while late-night bus services will be phased out and replaced by the restored flights.

The return of air services marks a significant shift in Finnair’s domestic strategy and is expected to improve travel options for passengers seeking faster connections to international destinations through Helsinki.
