Viking has opened bookings for a range of new European river voyage experiences, including scenic Zeppelin airship excursions in Germany, new shore visits and expanded land extensions across the continent.
The company said the additions are available on selected Rhine River itineraries and will give guests aerial views of Cologne and the Ruhr Valley, alongside new culinary and cultural excursions and more small-group options.
The new experiences add to Viking’s European river programme as the company continues to target travellers looking for a first river cruise or a deeper look at local destinations. They are now open for booking.
The Zeppelin excursions are the most eye-catching of the new offers. Guests on selected Rhine itineraries can take flight in the airship for views of some of Germany’s best-known industrial and urban landscapes.
Viking also said it is expanding its shore excursion range across Europe. The new options include food-focused and culture-focused experiences designed to give travellers a closer connection with the places they visit.
The company is also widening its land extension choices. These add-on stays can lengthen a trip before or after a river voyage and give guests more time in key European cities and regions.
Torstein Hagen, Viking’s executive chairman, said Europe remains one of the company’s strongest destinations.
“Europe remains a favourite destination for our guests—particularly those interested in experiencing a river voyage for the first time,” said Torstein Hagen, Executive Chairman of Viking.
“As we continue to expand our offerings in Europe, we are pleased to introduce new experiences that allow our guests to engage with their destination in the Viking way—through local food, culture and traditions, or even from the air in a Zeppelin,” said Torstein Hagen, Executive Chairman of Viking.
Viking has spent years building its brand around destination-led travel and its latest update fits that strategy. River cruises in Europe remain a key part of the market, with travellers often drawn by the combination of transport, accommodation and guided touring in one package.
The new programme also reflects growing demand for smaller, more curated shore experiences rather than large-group sightseeing. Viking’s focus on local food, culture and traditions suggests it is aiming to deepen the appeal of its river cruises beyond the usual city stops.
For the wider travel sector, the announcement underlines how river cruise operators are using premium experiences to compete for bookings. Air excursions, specialist tours and flexible extensions have become an important way to stand out in a crowded market.
Viking said the new European river voyage experiences are available now through its booking channels.
