Alicante Airport Sees 630,000 British Passengers In April

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport handled nearly 1.92 million passengers in April, continuing its strong growth trend as international travel demand across Spain remains elevated.

The airport recorded a total of 1,921,861 passengers during the month, representing a 10.9% increase compared with April 2025.

International Traffic Drives Growth

International travel continued to dominate activity at Alicante Airport, with overseas passenger traffic rising by 12.3% in April to reach 1,697,090 travellers.

Domestic traffic also increased slightly, with 222,973 passengers recorded on Spanish routes, representing year-on-year growth of 1.3%.

The figures are based on commercial passenger operations compared with the same period last year.

United Kingdom Remains Largest Market

The United Kingdom remained the airport’s largest international market in April with 637,030 passengers.

Germany followed with 117,359 travellers, closely ahead of the Netherlands with 117,241 passengers.

Poland and Belgium also ranked among the airport’s strongest international markets, recording 103,378 and 101,949 passengers respectively.

Flight Operations Also Increase

The airport handled 12,074 aircraft movements during April, marking another 10.9% increase compared with the same month in 2025.

The rise reflects continued airline expansion and growing demand for travel to Spain’s Costa Blanca region.

Strong Results Continue Through 2026

During the first four months of 2026, Alicante-Elche Airport handled 5,867,011 passengers, an increase of 8% compared with the same period last year.

Aircraft movements between January and April totalled 37,694 operations, up 7.7% year-on-year.

Aena Group Also Reports Growth

Across the wider Aena Group network, which includes airports in Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil, passenger traffic reached 33.5 million travellers in April 2026.

That represented overall growth of 3.6% compared with April 2025.

Aena said Spain’s airport network handled more than 28.2 million passengers during the month, while cargo traffic and aircraft operations also continued to rise.

The airport operator noted that passenger growth during the first months of the year was partly influenced by travellers shifting from rail to air transport following the January train accident in Spain.
