Orient Express Corinthian Sets Sail As World’s Largest Luxury Sailing Yacht

The launch of the Orient Express Corinthian marks a major milestone for one of travel’s most iconic brands, bringing its legacy of luxury from rail to sea for the first time.

Unveiled in Saint-Nazaire and built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, the vessel represents a new era for Orient Express, nearly 140 years after it first defined high-end rail travel.

A Floating Palace Designed For Ultra-Luxury Travel

Set to depart from Marseille in June for its maiden voyage, the Corinthian is described as the world’s largest sailing yacht.

The ship will accommodate just 54 suites, focusing on space, privacy and exclusivity rather than scale. Interiors feature panoramic sea views, bespoke furnishings, curated artwork and detailed craftsmanship, reflecting a design approach rooted in French luxury traditions.

The concept positions the yacht as more than a cruise ship, offering an experience closer to a private residence at sea.

Expanding Into A Growing Luxury Yachting Market

The launch places Orient Express within a rapidly expanding segment of ultra-luxury cruising, where hospitality brands are entering the yachting space with smaller, design-led vessels.

Competitors include The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, which helped establish the category, as well as emerging concepts from Four Seasons Yachts, Aman and Hilton.

These brands are targeting affluent travellers seeking more personalised experiences, combining high-end service with residential-style accommodations.

Blending Heritage With Modern Innovation

What sets the Corinthian apart is its combination of heritage and innovation. The project draws on the nostalgia of the golden age of travel while incorporating advanced sailing technology and contemporary design.

The result is positioned as a cultural experience as much as a journey, merging elements of hospitality, art and exploration into a single concept.

A New Chapter For Experiential Travel

As demand grows for immersive and highly curated travel experiences, the move reflects a broader shift in luxury tourism.

With its limited capacity, emphasis on craftsmanship and focus on storytelling, the Orient Express Corinthian is designed to appeal to travellers seeking exclusivity and meaning, rather than traditional mass-market cruising.

The yacht’s debut signals not only a new direction for the brand, but also the continued evolution of luxury travel into more intimate, experience-driven formats.
