One&Only has officially debuted in the United States with the opening of One&Only Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana, marking a long-anticipated milestone for the ultra-luxury hospitality brand and introducing its first alpine resort worldwide.
Set across 240 secluded acres within the Moonlight Basin community, the resort is enveloped by more than 17,000 acres of protected wilderness. Located approximately one hour from Bozeman and close to the entrance of Yellowstone National Park, the property places guests at the threshold of one of North America’s most dramatic natural landscapes.
The opening represents a strategic expansion the brand has been working toward for years. According to Mark Kirby, President of One&Only, bringing the brand to the US has been a long-held ambition, with Big Sky chosen for its scale, scenery, and sense of untamed space.
Designed by architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, the resort’s buildings sit low among the trees, blending into the surrounding terrain through the use of natural materials and locally inspired craftsmanship. The accommodation offering ranges from alpine-chic lodge rooms and suites to freestanding cabins and expansive Private Homes. Options include flexible family layouts and the signature Big Sky Suite, featuring a wraparound terrace and outdoor soaking tub oriented toward sweeping mountain views. The four- to six-bedroom Private Homes are designed for extended stays, emphasizing privacy, indoor–outdoor living, and generous entertaining spaces.
Food and drink are positioned as a defining element of the guest experience. Led by Executive Chef Matt Dahlkemper, the culinary program spans multiple venues, from elevated American comfort food at The Landing to ranch-to-table dining at Wildwood. Michelin-starred chef Akira Back brings his contemporary Japanese cuisine to the resort, while smaller venues such as Dear Josephine, inspired by a local Prohibition-era moonshiner, and the whiskey-focused Moonshack offer more intimate, atmospheric settings.
Positioned as a year-round destination, One&Only Moonlight Basin is closely tied to its alpine surroundings. In winter, guests reach Big Sky Resort’s Madison Base via a heated gondola in just five minutes, with additional opportunities for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat-tire biking on property. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, fly-fishing lessons on private lakes, and guided wildlife encounters, while Yellowstone tours operate throughout the year. After dark, stargazing sessions at the resort’s Observatory underscore the remoteness and clarity of Montana’s night skies.
With its US debut in Big Sky, One&Only enters the American market by anchoring itself in wilderness, seasonality, and experiential luxury, setting a distinctive tone for the brand’s next chapter.
