Liverpool John Lennon Airport Records Busiest Year Ever with 5.6 Million Passengers

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has recorded its busiest year in history, with more than 5.6 million passengers traveling through the airport in 2025.

Passenger numbers increased steadily throughout the year, with several months setting new all-time records. Following one of the busiest Decembers the airport has ever seen, annual passenger totals for 2025 were up 11 percent compared with 2024.

The growth was driven in large part by continued expansion from the airport’s three main airline partners – easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 – all of which added capacity and services over the past 12 months.

Alongside rising passenger volumes, 2025 also marked a year of significant investment in the customer experience at LJLA. Improvements included the installation of next-generation security screening equipment and the completion of an 18-month, multi-million-pound programme to develop new and upgraded food and beverage outlets in the departure lounge. The airport also opened a newly expanded Aspire Executive Lounge last autumn.

John Irving, chief executive officer of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said the record-breaking performance reflected the collective efforts of the airport and its on-site partners.

“To break our all-time passenger record last year is a tremendous achievement for the airport and all our business partners based here, and is testament to all the hard work that has gone into making Liverpool the successful airport it is today,” he said.

Irving added that the airport is optimistic about the year ahead. “As we look ahead at the start of 2026, I firmly believe we will go on to greater success, continuing to grow the business and give passengers across the City Region, the wider North West and North Wales ever more opportunities to continue to make Liverpool their airport of choice.”
