Honolulu’s long-awaited Skyline rail project has taken another major step forward. The city has opened the second segment of the 18.9-mile elevated rail line, extending service from Aloha Stadium to West Honolulu.
The new 5.2-mile stretch includes a station at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, offering travelers direct access to Terminals 1, 2, and 3 via pedestrian bridges and walkways. The first 10-mile section of Skyline, running from Kapolei to Aloha Stadium, began operating in July.
“This is an exciting moment for our city and for everyone who has worked so hard to make Skyline a reality,” said Honolulu mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Every new mile and every new station represents progress for our city — connecting people to jobs, schools, and each other in ways that make Oahu stronger and more connected.”
When completed, Skyline will span nearly 19 miles across Oahu, easing traffic congestion and providing faster, more reliable public transportation. The third and final segment, expected to open in 2031, will extend service from West Honolulu through Chinatown, downtown, and the Kakaako area.
The expansion marks a major milestone in Honolulu’s effort to modernize its transit system and connect key parts of the island with sustainable rail infrastructure.
