A large-scale cyberattack has paralyzed the operations of some of Europe’s busiest airports, causing widespread flight delays and cancellations. According to Reuters, the disruption hit electronic check-in and baggage systems at London Heathrow, as well as airports in Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, and Cork.
Passengers reported long queues and confusion as self-service kiosks and online check-in systems went offline. Some flights were canceled, while many others faced significant delays as staff resorted to manual procedures.
Authorities in both the United Kingdom and Germany confirmed they are investigating the source of the incident. Security experts are examining whether the attack was state-sponsored.
In the UK Parliament, several lawmakers have already raised concerns that Russia may be behind the cyber assault. The suspicions follow recent tensions after Russian military aircraft violated Estonian airspace, sparking renewed fears of hybrid warfare tactics targeting European infrastructure.
Officials have not yet provided a timeline for restoring full airport operations.
