Moldova is fast becoming one of Europe’s hottest medical tourism destinations, with exports of medical services nearly tripling in just five years — from USD 25.1 million in 2020 to USD 64.4 million in 2024.

In early 2025, revenues jumped another 17 percent year-on-year, as patients from Romania, Italy, Germany, the UK, Israel, Canada, and the US seek high-quality, low-cost treatments in Moldova.

The most in-demand services include dentistry, cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology, in vitro fertilization, and complex surgical procedures.

“Moldova can become a global reference point for medical tourism,” says Andrei Revenco, head of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova, which now leads the Global Healthcare Travel Council (2024–2026), surpassing Germany and Saudi Arabia in the vote.

Why patients choose Moldova: prices up to five times lower than in developed countries, top-tier specialists with international training, fast access to treatment without long wait times, and the added appeal of Moldova’s wine, cuisine, and landscapes.

Professor Valeriu Fala confirms that dentistry leads the way, especially full-mouth rehabilitation for diaspora patients and foreigners seeking complex care.

With only five percent of its medical tourism potential tapped, Moldova could generate USD 1.5 billion annually from healthcare exports.

Two major events will place Moldova on the global stage in 2025: the HealthTech Forum on September 19, showcasing AI, IoT, and digital health innovations, and the Global Healthcare Travel Forum from September 25 to 28, bringing together more than 50 countries and 100 experts.
