Portugal’s Algarve Welcomes First Kimpton Resort with Beachfront Spa and Bold Mediterranean Design

IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the first Kimpton-branded resort and spa in Portugal, Kimpton Atlântico Algarve Hotel, marking a bold new entry into the luxury lifestyle space on one of the country’s most pristine coastlines. Located just steps from the golden sands of São Rafael Beach near Albufeira, the 149-key property blends Mediterranean charm with Kimpton’s signature relaxed sophistication.

A Wellness-First Luxury Experience

At the heart of the new resort is a 1,800-square-metre Wellness Hub, offering a thoughtfully curated experience of holistic rejuvenation. The spa features six treatment rooms (including a couples’ suite), a hydrotherapy circuit with flotation tank, vitality pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and hot tub, as well as experience showers and a heated indoor pool. The gym is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and rooms for spin and virtual classes, while a recovery lounge provides tranquil post-treatment relaxation.

Guests aged 16 and above receive three-hour access to spa facilities with their stay.

Partnering with Subtle Energies, the spa’s menu includes standout treatments such as the 24k Gold Age-Defying Facial — a collagen-boosting ritual using mogra and gold to oxygenate skin and smooth wrinkles.

Design Inspired by Nature

The resort’s design, by renowned Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva, reflects the tranquil pace and earthy beauty of coastal life. Interiors showcase a soft, Mediterranean aesthetic using natural textures, smooth stone, timber accents, airy linens, and handcrafted ceramics, creating an atmosphere of understated elegance.

The development was project-managed by Lucid Development Group, with operations overseen by Highgate, a global hospitality and real estate firm with an established footprint in Portugal.

Culinary Delights with a Local Twist

Kimpton Atlântico Algarve promises an immersive culinary experience across its four diverse venues:

  • Terra – A welcoming café-style hub serving local pastries made with almonds, oranges, and Madeira honey.

  • Sombra – A lush garden restaurant specializing in fresh, locally caught seafood.

  • Marés – A relaxed beachfront dining spot serving daytime fare like Piri Piri chicken and Mediterranean-roasted vegetables.

  • Zénite – A chic rooftop bar offering Atlantic Ocean views alongside craft cocktails and local wines.
