Thousands of travelers are facing disruptions as the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has announced industrial action at Helsinki Airport for Monday, July 7, prompting Finnair to cancel approximately 100 flights.
The strike, if carried out, will affect all essential ground services for Finnair, Finland’s national carrier. According to Finnair, these cancellations will impact the travel plans of an estimated 7,200 passengers.
Finnair is currently contacting affected customers, with notifications being sent starting today. Travelers scheduled to fly on July 7 are urged to check their booking details through Finnair’s Manage Booking service or mobile app. Rebooking options will be available depending on seat availability, or passengers may opt to cancel for a full refund.
Customers can also reschedule their July 7 flights without any change fees, and Finnair reports that thousands have already done so.
While the airline is working to minimize disruptions, further industrial action is planned by the IAU for July 16, 18, 21, and 23. The potential impact of these later strikes is expected to be more limited, but Finnair will update customers two days prior if additional cancellations are required.
What travelers should do now:
- Check your email and Finnair app for updates if flying July 7
- Use “Manage Booking” to accept new routing or request changes
- Contact Finnair Customer Service only if needed — delays expected
As the busy summer travel season continues, Finnair is urging customers to stay informed and flexible. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
