Six Senses Bangkok to Rise on Historic Narai Hotel Site, Blending Heritage, Wellness, and Urban Elegance

In the bustling heart of Bangkok’s Silom district, a quiet transformation is underway—one that marries history, sustainability, and high-end hospitality. Global wellness and luxury hotel brand Six Senses has announced the signing of a landmark hotel management agreement with Thailand’s Narai Hospitality Group, marking the start of Six Senses Bangkok—a flagship urban retreat set to open in 2028.

Built on the storied grounds of the iconic Narai Hotel, which first opened its doors in 1968, this visionary new project will form the centerpiece of Hatai, a mixed-use development poised to revitalize the area both aesthetically and socially.

A Legendary Address Reimagined

The Narai Hotel was no ordinary stay. For over five decades, it was a beacon of hospitality in Thailand—a space where business leaders, global travelers, celebrities, and royalty crossed paths. Now, as the site is transformed, the spirit of that golden era will be thoughtfully preserved, even as the design and concept pivot toward modern sustainability, mindful wellness, and emotional hospitality.

“It’s a privilege to honor the legacy of Narai Hotel in such a culturally significant and storied location,” said Neil Palmer, COO of Six Senses. “Together with Narai Hospitality Group, we’re creating something truly special—a place that respects its history while embracing the signature Six Senses blend of wellness, crafted experiences, and sustainable design.”

A Lantern-Lit Future for Silom

Six Senses Bangkok will be part of Hatai, a bold development imagined as Bangkok’s new “lantern quarter.” Conceptualized by world-renowned Heatherwick Studio, the architectural design draws inspiration from traditional Thai lanterns—elegant, intricate, and symbolic of renewal. The effect will be both physical and metaphorical: illuminating not only the skyline but the cultural soul of the neighborhood.

The hotel will feature around 100 rooms and suites, each designed as a peaceful urban sanctuary. Atop the building will sit a 700-square-meter signature suite and a fine dining restaurant crafted by celebrated designer Joyce Wang, alongside lush sky gardens, a biophilic sky lobby, and a rooftop pool that draws the indoors into the skyline.

Interior spaces by BAR Studio will integrate tactile, natural materials—many repurposed from the original Narai Hotel’s historic wooden foundation—creating a textural narrative that is deeply tied to place.

Holistic Wellness at the Core

True to the Six Senses philosophy, wellness is not a feature—it is a foundation. Guests can expect the brand’s signature high-tech meets high-touch spa services, sleep optimization programs, nourishing cuisine, and locally immersive experiences. The hotel is already targeting LEED Gold and WELL Gold certifications, promising not just luxury but healthy, sustainable living spaces in the middle of one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.

“There’s a shared dedication between our teams to emotional hospitality and community integration,” said Nathee Nithivasin, CEO of Narai Hospitality Group. “This project continues our care for Silom and reinforces our commitment to building thoughtfully for future generations.”

A Gateway Between Heritage and Innovation

Located directly on Silom Road, the hotel will enjoy a strategic position just steps from the BTS and MRT networks, providing easy access to all corners of the city. Guests will be a stone’s throw from revered landmarks like the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, as well as contemporary marvels like the King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk. Silom’s unique blend of street food, nightlife, fine dining, and riverfront charm makes it a cultural microcosm of Bangkok itself.

Six Senses Bangkok will be one of two hotels opening within the Hatai development, which also includes premium retail, dining, and community gathering spaces spread across nearly 6,000 square meters. It’s more than a hotel—it’s a new civic and social hub for both locals and international visitors.

A Milestone for Thailand—and Six Senses

The launch of Six Senses Bangkok will mark a return to the brand’s roots. Known for its serene island escapes like Six Senses Yao Noi and Six Senses Samui, this venture signals the growing ambition to bring the Six Senses vision to urban settings. The Bangkok location will join a growing portfolio of city-based projects, including Six Senses Rome, Kyoto, and upcoming hotels in London, Milan, Lisbon, Dubai, and Tel Aviv.

The hotel’s opening in 2028 is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the original Narai Hotel—an elegant nod to history and a symbolic bridge to the future.

Final Thoughts

Six Senses Bangkok is not just another luxury hotel. It’s an ambitious reimagining of what urban hospitality can be when it’s grounded in sustainability, heritage, and well-being. In a city that never stands still, this new development offers something rare: a moment of stillness, beauty, and meaning.
