LOT Polish Airlines Grounds Flights to Tel Aviv Until May 11

LOT Polish Airlines has temporarily suspended its flights to and from Tel Aviv following a rare missile incident at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. The airline announced that its popular Boeing 737 routes from Krakow and Warsaw will not resume until at least May 11, after a ballistic missile fired from Yemen landed near the airport’s technical area.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a missile launched by Houthi forces in Yemen fell within the vicinity of the airport. Air traffic was halted for nearly an hour, impacting not only local operations but also foreign carriers. This was the first time since March that a missile was not intercepted by Israel’s advanced multi-layered air defense system, raising concerns over traveler safety and airspace stability.

As a result, several international airlines, including those from the Lufthansa Group, Ryanair, and Wizz Air, quickly altered their operations. Among them, LOT Polish Airlines, a carrier frequently used by Israeli travelers for connecting flights across Europe, decided to pause all scheduled flights to Ben Gurion Airport.

According to Krzysztof Moczulski, spokesperson for LOT Polish Airlines, the decision includes both direct LOT-operated flights and those handled by HelloJets aircraft based in Tel Aviv. All rotations from Poland to Israel and vice versa are currently suspended until May 11, pending further security assessments.
