As the aviation summer season kicks off, travelers in Lithuania are in for exciting news. Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga airports will expand their offerings with nearly a hundred destinations, significantly enhancing connectivity to European cities and beyond. The country’s airports are preparing for a busy summer season, marked by increased flight frequencies and new routes that cater to both business and leisure travelers.
Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) has confirmed that eleven out of fifteen airlines operating regular flights in the country will boost their services this summer. Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lithuanian Airports, highlighted that the sustainable infrastructure of the country’s airports is paving the way for stronger partnerships and growth, leading to improved services and a wider range of destinations. “This creates conditions to pursue new traffic records, ensuring a high passenger experience,” said Bartkus.
New Routes and Increased Frequencies
From Vilnius Airport travelers can expect 61 destinations this summer. Popular European capitals like London, Paris, and Brussels will see increased flight frequencies, making it easier for business travelers to plan their trips. In addition, new direct routes to Prague, Tel Aviv, and Catania will be introduced, offering more variety for both businesses and holidaymakers.
Seasonal flights to sunny Mediterranean destinations will resume, including direct connections to Mallorca, Nice, and Greek resorts. Notably, charter flights will also serve popular tourist destinations like Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, and the Greek island of Rhodes, providing even more options for vacationers looking to enjoy some time in the sun.
Kaunas and Palanga Ready for Busy Summer
Kaunas, which saw significant growth in passenger traffic last year, will not be left behind. This summer, the airport will offer direct flights to several iconic Italian cities, such as Pisa, Rimini, and Bari, with new routes to Pescara starting in June. Other popular destinations include the Greek island of Rhodes, which will be served from Kaunas starting May 1, and Mallorca, starting March 31. Flights to the Croatian city of Zadar will also begin in early June.
For those in the western part of Lithuania, Palanga Airport is set to become a gateway to Turkey and Egypt with regular charter flights to Antalya and Sharm El Sheikh. Starting in mid-April, the route to Turkey will give travelers an early start to the summer season, while the Egyptian connection will begin in late September. These new additions, along with established routes to Amsterdam and Dublin, will make Palanga a key player in Lithuania’s summer air travel.
Growth and Opportunities
The expansion of routes across Lithuania’s airports is expected to foster increased passenger traffic. In 2024, Palanga saw a remarkable 25% growth in passenger numbers, and this upward trend is set to continue. Kaunas, which handled 1.4 million passengers last year, is also on track for a busy summer, with plans to increase its flight offerings to popular destinations in Southern Europe.
With all these new routes, Lithuanian airports are not only enhancing their air connectivity but also contributing to the country’s tourism and business growth. As summer 2025 approaches, travelers can look forward to even more options, smoother connections, and greater convenience when flying from Lithuania.
