United Airlines Expands U.S. Flights to Mallorca

United Airlines is set to bring back its seasonal service between New York (Newark) and Palma de Mallorca this summer, reinforcing the Spanish island’s growing appeal among American travelers. Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, has seen a surge in international visitors. Last year, Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) handled 33.3 million passengers, surpassing its pre-pandemic numbers.

United’s commitment to this route reflects Mallorca’s rising status as a Mediterranean hotspot. The airline first introduced the service in 2022, and its success has paved the way for potential expansion. Antonio de Toro, United Airlines’ head of sales in Spain, hinted at the possibility of a new route from Washington, D.C., to Palma soon.

“Next year or in two years, we could increase the weekly or seasonal frequencies further,” he stated. “If the route continues to grow, we will probably see what has happened in other European destinations, which is the launch of new flights from Washington; we have seen this in Venice and Nice. In Barcelona, it has been extended to the whole year.”

For travelers, this expansion means more seamless access to Mallorca’s stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and renowned gastronomy. Whether exploring the historic streets of Palma, enjoying the scenic Serra de Tramuntana, or indulging in the island’s vibrant food scene, Mallorca continues to cement itself as a must-visit destination.
