Sky Express Launches Daily Athens-Istanbul Flights

Greek airline Sky Express celebrated a milestone on November 12, 2024, with the launch of its first direct flight from Athens to Istanbul. This new daily service connects the capitals of Greece and Turkey, strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries and expanding travel options for passengers.

The inaugural flight landed at iGA Istanbul Airport at 9:30 a.m., where it was welcomed with a special ceremony hosted by iGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen. Sky Express Chairman Ioannis Grylos attended the event, emphasizing the importance of the route for enhancing connectivity in the region.

“With this new route, we aim to offer more choices to travelers while facilitating connections between Greece and Turkey. This milestone also reinforces our commitment to growth and innovation,” Grylos said.

Flights on the route will be operated daily using the modern Airbus A320 Neo, a 182-seat aircraft designed for efficiency and comfort. Passengers traveling between Athens and Istanbul can also benefit from convenient connections to several popular Greek islands, including Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, Kos, Paros, and Heraklion.

iGA Istanbul Airport, recognized as one of the world’s most connected airports, now serves 110 airlines, with Sky Express becoming its latest partner. This new route is part of Sky Express’s rapid network expansion, reflecting its position as Greece’s fastest-growing airline.

The Athens-Istanbul route is expected to boost tourism and business travel, offering a seamless link between two historic cities with vibrant cultural and economic ties.
