Incheon International Airport in South Korea is deploying a beagle named Seko to check for bedbugs among athletes, officials, and spectators returning from the Paris Olympics.
The two-year-old beagle is currently the only dog in South Korea trained to detect the scent of bedbugs. Seko can inspect hotel rooms and identify the presence of these pests within two minutes.
The initiative involves collaboration between the pest control company Cesco, airport authorities, airlines, and relevant national agencies.
Additionally, extra disinfection measures are being implemented for aircraft traveling between Paris and Seoul. While routine disinfection typically occurs monthly, planes are now being treated weekly.
The issue of bedbugs gained significant media attention in France last fall, with social media reports alleging infestations in hospitals, movie theaters, and even public transport in Paris, although transport companies have denied these claims.
