A Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam (flight 136) was diverted to New York’s JFK airport early Wednesday morning due to concerns about spoiled food.
According to a statement from Delta, a portion of the in-flight meals served in the main cabin were suspected to be spoiled. Out of an abundance of caution, the pilot diverted the Airbus A330 aircraft carrying 277 passengers to JFK.
Medical crews met the plane upon landing to assess any passengers or crew members who may have been affected by the potentially spoiled food.
Delta apologized for the inconvenience and stated that their food safety team is taking immediate action to isolate the suspect product and launch a full investigation into the incident. The airline has rebooked passengers on alternate flights and provided them with hotel accommodations.
