Experts Release Annual Travel Risk Ratings for 2024

International SOS, a consulting company specializing in medical and security matters, has unveiled its travel risk ratings annual report highlighting countries deemed risky for travel in 2024. The assessment considers various factors, including security conditions, medical facilities, and climate-related risks. Each country is evaluated on a five-point scale ranging from “low” to “very high” risk for medical and climate factors, and from “negligible” to “extreme” for security.

For the second consecutive year, Ukraine has been identified as one of the riskiest destinations on the map.

The countries with the highest risk levels are as follows:

  1. Ukraine
  2. Syria
  3. Iraq
  4. Afghanistan
  5. Libya
  6. Yemen
  7. South Sudan
  8. Central African Republic
  9. Somalia

The safest countries for travel are:

  1. Iceland
  2. Luxembourg
  3. Norway
  4. Switzerland
  5. Denmark

In the category of medical assistance, countries designated as “high risk” include Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, North Korea, Palestine, Haiti, Niger, Libya, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Burundi, and Somalia.

Climate-related challenges are most pronounced in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Chad, Niger, Mali, Nigeria, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mozambique.
