Aena is going to install new X-ray technology scanners at passenger control points that generate a three-dimensional image. This will make it easier to screen luggage without having to put liquids in a plastic bag or take out electronic devices and leave them in separate trays, saving travelers time.
Aena will announce several tenders for the purchase of this equipment, which can be put into operation by the end of 2023 or in the first half of 2024.
Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat will be the pioneers in implementing the system. At the end of 2024, the equipment should also appear in Palma, and then in other airports in the country.
In 2024, passengers at Copenhagen Airport will be able to leave electronic devices and liquids in their bags during screening. Belts, watches and shoes will also no longer have to be removed.
