SunExpress to Increase Izmir Capacity

SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, is strengthening its position as the main carrier of Izmir with the capacity and frequency increase. The airline reaches the largest network expansion in Izmir with a total of 8 new routes and an additional 4000 flights in the summer of 2022.

Speaking at the press conference in Izmir, SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki stated, “Izmir is our home. As the main carrier of Izmir, we continue to connect Izmir to the world and contribute to the tourism and economy of both Izmir and the Aegean Region. With capacity and frequency increase and new destinations added, we are moving towards our goal of becoming the number one leisure airline in Turkey bringing the highest number of tourists to Izmir and Turkey.”

SunExpress connects Izmir with the highest number of destinations on both domestic and international routes. The airline is now offering non-stop flights from Izmir to 50 destinations in 18 countries. This summer, the airline flies to 15 cities in Turkey, including Adana, Antalya, Bodrum, Diyarbakir, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kars, Kayseri, Konya, Malatya, Samsun, Trabzon, Van from Izmir and the its recently launched new destination, Mardin. New international destinations added to the network are: Beirut, Milan, Nantes, Manchester, Tel Aviv, Budapest, Skopje.

Kownatzki, “As Turkey’s tourism ambassador, our aim is to show visitors from all over the world that Izmir is a perfect holiday destination with its rich history, cultural heritage and magnificent nature, Izmir has a lot to offer not only in summer but also in other seasons. We will continue to work hard to make Izmir a city visited throughout the year by taking tourism beyond sun and beach holiday.”

Last year, SunExpress hosted leading tourism agencies from Germany in Izmir to introduce the city as one of the most attractive destinations for safe holidays within the framework of all hygiene and safety measures taken during the pandemic. SunExpress which is the sponsor of the ‘Visit Izmir’ mobile application, implemented with the aim of introducing Izmir to the world with the joint work of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmir Foundation, is also a partner of the ‘directizmir.com’ project.
