For the second year in a row, Moscow won the World’s Leading City Destination 2020. St. Petersburg won the prestigious international award World Travel Awards, considered the “Oscar” in the field of tourism, in the category “Leading Cultural Destination of the World 2020”.
The Russian cities have bypassed such cities as London, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and others.
This year Moscow is presented in seven nominations at once. Among them – “The best cultural destination. City”, “The best tourist destination for the study of historical heritage”, “The best destination for festival and event tourism.”
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993. It is considered the most prestigious tourism award. Moscow was hosting the World Travel Awards for the first time.
In 2019, the Russian capital won an award in the main category “Best Travel Destination. City”, ahead of such cities as London, New York, Paris, Sydney, Lisbon and others.
St. Petersburg won the prestigious international award World Travel Awards in the category “Leading Cultural Destination of the World 2020”.
Previously, St. Petersburg has repeatedly won the World Travel Awards in various nominations. Thus, in 2015, the city received the first award as a leading European destination, and, for example, in 2017 and 2018 it became the leader in the category “Best Urban Destination in Europe”.
“Last year, our city was visited by more than 10 million tourists from all over the world and from different regions of Russia. This year we were ready to receive even more guests. When humanity copes with the pandemic, we are waiting for everyone who wants to be on the banks of the Neva again or visit our city “, said Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg.
