Sea Cloud Cruises to Restart in the Spring

The Sea Cloud Cruises fleet will be setting sail again. On March 17, 2021, the Sea Cloud II will set sail from Las Palmas on seven-day trips around the Canary Islands. Two weeks later, the Sea Cloud starts its voyages through the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea. “Our team has put together a program that meets the high demands of our guests, even if we still have to start our season under Covid-19 conditions, as is currently foreseeable,” says Managing Director Daniel Schäfer. In the coming spring, the Hamburg-based company will also put its new build, the Sea Cloud Spirit into service.

Reliability and safety are crucial for the restart
With the restart, the Sea Cloud ships will return to operation almost one year to the day after they were forced to shut down due to the pandemic. Although the demand for the extraordinary sea voyages on the luxury tall ships were strong over the last few months, Sea Cloud Cruises made a conscious decision to resume voyages later than other operators: “In addition to our principle of ‘quality over quantity,’ reliability and safety are our top priority,” emphasizes Schäfer. For the start of the season, the cruising company has taken all Covid-19 safety and hygiene measures into account.

New start with exclusive round trips and new program offerings
At the start of the season, the Sea Cloud ships will be offering their guests an extraordinary experience that has established the legendary reputation of these tall ships, with the feel of a private yacht. Sea Cloud II is the first ship to set sail from Las Palmas on March 17. The 7-night cruise, will combine the impressive experience of a journey under full sail with exclusive excursions into the nature and culture of the Canary Islands. Sea Cloud Cruises has integrated some new active offers into this program, such as island excursions on Lanzarote with environmentally friendly electric vehicles, whale watching off La Gomera and catamaran tours off Fuerteventura. “We have received growing interest from guests who no longer want to travel on larger cruise ships, but do not want to forego sea voyages,” explains Schäfer.

Sea Cloud – a classic has been setting the standard for extraordinary sea voyages for 90 years
The Sea Cloud will pick up speed again on April 2 in the Aegean Sea. The flagship of Sea Cloud Cruises will be a proud 90 years old in 2021. As a young-at-heart classic, it continues to set standards for extraordinary sea voyages. The round trips will start and finish in Athens (Piraeus), with two different routes into the outstanding island world of the Cyclades. In the land program, the beauty of the Greek Islands plays just as much a role as their millennia-long history. Sea Cloud Cruises made a conscious decision to offer only round trips for the start of the season, and not the usual trips with different ports of departure and destination: “In the event that there will be Covid-19 related restrictions for a longer period of time in the coming year, we can already meet all applicable requirements from the moment we arrive,” says Daniel Schäfer.
