Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic and FOOD & WINE Partner for Gastronomic Journeys

Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic is partnering with FOOD & WINE, a trusted authority on the latest trends in food, drink, travel, design, and entertainment, to introduce an exciting series of culinary expeditions.

Taking place aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion, these eight-day gastronomic journeys, presented by FOOD & WINE, will explore the Columbia and Snake Rivers in the Pacific Northwest. Guests on board will have the opportunity to delve into the region’s fascinating history, breathtaking landscapes, and abundant harvests, while indulging in the culinary delights and world-class wines that the area has to offer.

“The Columbia and Snake Rivers region boasts an incredible diversity that every chef dreams of! This new itinerary allows us to source fresh ingredients directly from local farmers along the way, capturing the essence of the region’s culinary delicacies,” said Ana Esteves, Vice President of Hotel Operations at Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic. “From vast wheat fields and orchards in central Washington to the coastal seafood and the lush forests of Oregon where our partners forage mushrooms, this culinary journey is one of my favorites, and a must-visit destination for any food lover.”

When not exploring on foot or by Zodiac, guests will savor regionally inspired menus featuring ingredients and wines sourced within a 250-mile radius of the destination. The extensive wine list, curated by Ana Esteves in collaboration with Ray Isle, Executive Wine Editor of FOOD & WINE, showcases over 40 regional varietals. Onboard wine tastings will be held each evening, providing an opportunity to sample and appreciate the unique flavors of the region.

“The expedition follows the Columbia River through some of the Pacific Northwest’s most beautiful wine regions, including the Columbia Gorge and Walla Walla,” said Ray Isle. “Selecting the wines for these exclusive expeditions has been an adventure in itself, and being able to taste them amidst the landscapes they come from will be an extraordinary experience for everyone on the trip.”

The National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion are nimble, reliable, and intimate vessels, featuring only 31 outside cabins and suites each. These purpose-built ships, flying the U.S. flag, are designed to navigate shallow and narrow waterways, enabling guests to venture deeper and explore further than larger vessels.

The inaugural Columbia and Snake Rivers Journey Presented by FOOD & WINE expedition will depart from Portland, Oregon, on March 31, 2024, aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird. Ray Isle will be sailing as a special guest, with additional unique programming to be announced at a later date.
