How Exclusive Hotels Use Signature Scents to Elevate Guest Experiences

There’s always something special about the scent of luxury hotels. Many hotel brands are bottling signature scents, making them available to visitors via fragrances, candles and diffusers.

It’s widely recognized that scent is one of the most powerful senses when it comes to our emotions. That’s why some scents feel so comforting, and others have the ability to evoke powerful memories and to transport you back in time to happy times. When you walk into a fancy hotel and take a breath one of their fignature fragnances, you instantly link that scent to the hotel. Fragrances can not only link the scent to the location, but also tie together the scent with all the memories associated with your time at a five-star hotel.

How the hotel develop its scents?

Atelier Rebul

Some, like Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus collaborate with perfume experts like Atelier Rebul, renowned for its fascinating and iconic fignature fragnances. The exclusive new collection carries the signature scent of the “Blue Bosphorus Breeze,” seamlessly bringing the distinctive accommodation experience provided by Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus to homes. This limited-edition collection comprises exclusive items, including a 500 ml reed diffuser, a 210 gram candle, and a Miniature Home Kit featuring mini versions of these products.

Another iconic property that collaborated with Atelier Rebul in Istanbul is Çırağan Palace. The elegant scent of geranium and violet and the elegant note of the lily flower was created in 2022.

One more interesting collaboration of Four Seasons is collab of Hotel Ritz Lisbon Eau de Parfum and perfumer Lourenço Lucena and is a composition that pays tribute to the unique relationship between the iconic Ritz Hotel and Lisbon, its home since 1959.

The Society of Scent

Andaz hotels announced a new collaboration with The Society of Scent in 2019, an olfactory collective which includes a proprietary fragrance creation laboratory led by Jean Claude Delville. Together, the Andaz brand and The Society of Scent  created a series of individual scents based on elements of each property and locale that are most resonant.

Collaborating with pioneering Air Aroma, Mayfair Morning effortlessly combined classic British charm with modern London style and flair to perfectly embody the prestigious Park Lane location in a new signature lobby scent.

Le Labo

Le Labo is a perfume atelier that has supplied their Rose 31 fragrance for the Fairmont’s toiletries since 2011. Le Labo created candles and diffusers for London EDITION.

Jo Malone

Jo Malone created new Jo Loves partnership with Shangri-La The Shard London. Shangri-La brand has become the first hotel to stock the Jo Loves Hotel Collection, which includes a bespoke line of body care and hair care amenities.

Jo Malone products will be also offered to guests in five and six-star hotels and resort properties worldwide as part of a new partnership between the British luxury brand and Groupe GM. The line will include 40ml and 75ml Body & Hand Wash, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body & Hand Lotion bottles, as well as 30g and 50g soaps, packed in allegro.

Bulgari Hotels & Resorts use Bulgari scents across their properties, specifically Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert to promote relaxation and wellness.

One&Only has collaborated with renowned perfume house Montroi to bottle the full range of their resort offering through scent.

Pan Pacific London has an ongoing partnership with Diptyque so you can also enjoy the brand’s little luxuries in the bathrooms when you stay. When you walk into the hotel, you’ll be greeted by the scent of Philosykos by Diptyque. Same perfume is selected by Ritz-Carlton.
