Samoa is celebrating the launch of Qantas’ new direct Auckland–Apia service, a new air link designed to strengthen connectivity between New Zealand and the South Pacific while making it easier for international travellers to include Samoa in their itineraries.
The new route improves access to the island nation for holidaymakers, visiting friends and relatives, and cultural travellers, while creating new opportunities for visitors already exploring New Zealand to extend their journey with a Pacific island escape.
Boosting Regional Connectivity
The Auckland–Apia service enhances Samoa’s accessibility from one of its key visitor markets and strengthens regional air links across the South Pacific.
The inaugural flight was welcomed at Faleolo International Airport with a traditional cultural ceremony hosted by the Samoa Tourism Authority, giving arriving passengers their first experience of the country’s renowned hospitality.
Niumata Kitiona Pogi, Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Tourism Authority, said the new service represents an important milestone for the destination.
“Samoa has always been a favourite destination for travellers seeking authentic experiences, and this new connection makes it easier for more visitors to discover our islands,” he said.
A New Multi-Destination Travel Option
The new Qantas route is also expected to attract international travellers visiting New Zealand who wish to add a South Pacific destination to their holiday.
Tourism officials believe Samoa offers a natural complement to New Zealand, combining tropical beaches, rich Polynesian culture and traditional village life with New Zealand’s landscapes, outdoor adventures and major attractions.
“This service also provides an opportunity to welcome international travellers who are visiting New Zealand and looking to add a South Pacific destination to their itinerary,” Pogi said. “Samoa offers the perfect complement to a New Zealand holiday, providing visitors with the chance to experience our unique culture, pristine natural environment and the genuine warmth of the Samoan people.”

The new connection further strengthens the long-standing relationship between Samoa and New Zealand, one of the country’s most important source markets for visitors.
Tourism officials expect the route to support continued growth in leisure travel, family visits and international tourism while improving access for travellers from other global markets connecting through New Zealand.

With the launch of the Auckland–Apia service, Samoa continues its efforts to improve international accessibility while promoting its distinctive cultural identity and natural attractions.
