A crew member aboard Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess has died after going overboard while the ship was sailing off Mexico’s Caribbean coast, the cruise line has confirmed.
The incident occurred after the vessel departed Port Everglades over the weekend on a Caribbean itinerary bound for Cozumel.
Extensive Search Lasted More Than Eight Hours
Princess Cruises initially reported that the crew member was unaccounted for and immediately launched search-and-rescue procedures.
According to the cruise line, the ship halted its voyage while crew members conducted an extensive search in coordination with the appropriate maritime authorities.
Passengers onboard said they were informed by the captain that a crew member had gone overboard as the ship sailed toward Cozumel.
After more than eight hours of searching, Princess Cruises confirmed that the crew member had died.
Ship Resumes Caribbean Voyage
Following the conclusion of the search operation, Regal Princess resumed its scheduled itinerary.
Princess Cruises has not released the identity of the deceased crew member or provided details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
