How Hotels Are Making Better Sleep the Reason to Travel

Sleep is becoming one of the most sought-after travel experiences, with hotels around the world introducing dedicated wellness programmes, advanced sleep technology and personalised in-room amenities designed to help guests achieve deeper, more restorative rest.

As travellers increasingly prioritise wellbeing, quality sleep is influencing booking decisions alongside traditional factors such as location and amenities. The growing trend, known as sleep tourism, is encouraging hotels to transform sleep from a basic necessity into a carefully curated part of the guest experience.

Ananda in the Himalayas, India

Set in the Himalayan foothills overlooking the Ganges Valley, Ananda in the Himalayas combines its tranquil natural setting with a comprehensive Sleep Enhancement Programme. Available as seven-, 14- or 21-night stays, the personalised programme blends Ayurveda, yoga and modern sleep science to address insomnia, fatigue and circadian rhythm imbalance.

Guests undergo detailed assessments using traditional Ayurvedic diagnostics alongside wearable sleep monitoring technology before receiving tailored treatments that may include meditation, breathing exercises, Shirodhara therapy, Abhyanga massage and personalised nutrition plans. Pillow menus and additional therapies such as acupuncture further support restorative sleep.

The Dylan Amsterdam, Netherlands

Located along one of Amsterdam’s quieter canals, The Dylan Amsterdam has partnered with FreshBed and Nilson Beds to place sleep at the centre of its guest experience.

Three suites feature climate-controlled FreshBeds that allow guests to independently adjust sleeping temperatures on each side of the bed while maintaining continuous airflow throughout the night. Combined with handcrafted mattresses, blackout curtains, sound insulation and the hotel’s peaceful location, the property aims to create optimal conditions for uninterrupted sleep.

The hotel’s recently introduced Unscripted Summer experience also encourages visitors to slow down and embrace a more mindful pace while exploring the Dutch capital.

Hotel Belmar, Costa Rica

Surrounded by the Monteverde cloud forest, Hotel Belmar uses nature itself as a foundation for better sleep. In April 2026, the hotel introduced its Deep Sleep Ritual, transforming the traditional evening turndown service into a guided relaxation experience.

Guests receive a bedside guide with science-backed sleep recommendations, access to guided meditation or Yin yoga sessions and herbal infusions prepared from botanicals grown on the property’s regenerative farm.

The hotel’s new Artista private villas, launched in June 2026, further enhance the concept through biophilic architecture, natural lighting, improved air quality, magnesium-based sleep rituals, saltwater plunge pools and immersive forest surroundings designed to encourage deep relaxation.

Imperial Hotel Tokyo, Japan

The Imperial Hotel Tokyo takes a different approach by focusing on personalised comfort rather than dedicated sleep programmes.

Guests staying on the Imperial Floor benefit from the hotel’s exclusive Sleepworks bedding collection, featuring air-pocket coil mattresses, Polish goose-down duvets and antibacterial bedding materials designed to maximise sleeping comfort.

An extensive pillow menu allows guests to choose from options including buckwheat hull, latex, Tempur®, cotton and feather pillows, while additional amenities such as mattress toppers and humidifiers can be requested. Custom-designed bedside reading lights minimise light disturbance, allowing one guest to read without affecting the sleep of another.

Sleep Becomes a Travel Priority

From holistic wellness retreats and forest hideaways to technology-driven boutique hotels and personalised luxury accommodation, sleep tourism is rapidly becoming one of hospitality’s fastest-growing trends. As travellers increasingly seek holidays that leave them feeling refreshed rather than exhausted, hotels are making restorative sleep a defining part of the modern travel experience.
