A selection of photographs first exhibited in After the Game at the third Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar has been included in Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy, a new exhibition in Mexico City celebrating the cultural legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Presented by the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in partnership with Mexico’s Ministry of Culture through the Centro de Cultura Digital (CCD), the exhibition forms part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture programme, linking the legacy of Qatar 2022 with the next FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States in 2026.
Photography Highlights the Human Story of Qatar 2022
The selected works from Tasweer expand the exhibition’s focus beyond football itself, documenting the people, emotions and shared experiences that defined the tournament.
The photographs appear throughout several sections of the exhibition, including Look of the Game, Matches and Players, and Unity in Diversity, illustrating how photography captures the cultural and social impact of one of the world’s largest sporting events.
Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, said the legacy of Qatar 2022 extends beyond the matches themselves, highlighting the role of fans whose traditions, celebrations and cultural exchanges helped shape the tournament’s unique atmosphere.
Continuing the Story of the FIFA World Cup
Khalifa Al Obaidli, Director of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, said the featured photographs preserve the shared humanity and memorable encounters that made the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ a landmark event, adding that the exhibition allows those stories to continue reaching new international audiences.
After the Game was originally presented during the third edition of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar in 2025, exploring the lasting legacy of the tournament through the work of photographers documenting celebrations, reflection and everyday moments across the country.
Part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture
Curated by Sheikha Najla Al Thani, Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy combines photography, historical objects and multimedia installations to examine the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ as a defining moment for both Qatar and the wider region.
Its presentation at Centro de Cultura Digital in Mexico City symbolically passes the World Cup legacy from Qatar to the next host nations, reinforcing cultural ties ahead of the 2026 tournament. The exhibition will remain open to visitors through 9 August 2026.
