Scandic Hotels is continuing its expansion strategy across smaller Nordic markets with the addition of a new franchise property in Köping, strengthening its presence in regional Sweden through a partnership with Norlandia Hotel Group.
The new hotel is scheduled to join the Scandic network in January 2027 following a major renovation programme that will transform the property into a newly branded hospitality offering.
The project represents another step in Scandic’s franchise growth strategy as hotel groups increasingly target secondary cities and regional markets.
Newly Renovated Hotel To Open Under Scandic Brand
The hotel currently operates under another brand but is undergoing a full renovation before joining the Scandic portfolio.
When completed, the property will offer 110 guestrooms alongside restaurant facilities and conference space designed for meetings and events.
Meeting facilities at the hotel are expected to accommodate up to 150 participants, helping attract both business and leisure travelers.
The development adds another regional location to Scandic’s growing network across the Nordic market.
Köping Positioned As Regional Business And Transport Hub
Köping is located approximately 90 minutes from Stockholm and serves as an important regional center with manufacturing industries and logistics activity.
The city is home to Sweden’s second-largest inland port and remains an important economic hub within the surrounding region.
The hotel’s location near both the city center and sports facilities is expected to support demand from multiple traveler segments.
Franchise Expansion Continues Across Nordic Markets
Scandic says its franchise strategy allows the company to expand into cities where it currently has limited or no presence while offering partners access to wider commercial networks.
The collaboration also extends an existing relationship between Scandic and Norlandia Hotel Group, which already operates multiple properties connected to the hotel company.
The property is also expected to receive Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification, one of the region’s most recognized environmental certifications for hospitality businesses.
The latest addition reflects broader growth across Nordic hospitality markets as hotel groups continue focusing on regional expansion and sustainability-focused development strategies.
