DS Automobiles endured a frustrating second race at the Monaco E-Prix after strong pace and promising positions failed to translate into points on the streets of the principality.
Following a positive Saturday in which both cars finished inside the top 10 and the team secured the fastest lap of the race, DS PENSKE entered Sunday’s contest aiming to add further points to its ABB FIA Formula E World Championship campaign.
Strong Grid Positions Raised Expectations
Taylor Barnard started Sunday’s race from sixth on the grid, while Maximilian Günther lined up in 12th after showing competitive pace throughout the weekend.
The DS E-TENSE FE25 once again demonstrated front-running potential during the hotly contested race, which featured several incidents and penalties across the field.
Late Incidents End Hopes Of Points Finish
As the race entered its closing stages, Barnard was battling for a top-five finish before being forced to retire following an ambitious overtaking attempt at the entrance to Monaco’s tunnel section.
Meanwhile, Günther crossed the line in 10th position but was later handed a post-race penalty that dropped the German driver to 13th place, leaving DS Automobiles without points from Sunday’s race.
Drivers Reflect On Difficult Monaco Weekend
Taylor Barnard admitted responsibility for one of the incidents during the race while praising the team’s qualifying performance.
The British driver said the team still needed to unlock more race pace over the remainder of the season despite the strong qualifying speed shown in Monaco.
Maximilian Günther said he felt comfortable in the car from the opening practice session after setting the third-fastest time earlier in the weekend.
He added that the team had worked to balance track position and energy management during the race but ultimately lacked the same pace shown during Saturday’s event.
Focus Shifts To Formula E Return In China
Following Monaco, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will next head to Sanya, China, for Round 11 of the season on June 20.
DS Automobiles previously celebrated victory in Sanya during the 2019 Formula E campaign and will aim to return to the points when the series resumes.
DS Automobiles Continues Formula E Legacy
Since entering Formula E, DS Automobiles has competed in 147 races and secured four championship titles, 18 victories, 55 podium finishes, and 26 pole positions.
The French manufacturer remains one of Formula E’s most successful teams as it continues competing in the all-electric championship.
