Russia’s First Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction has upheld a ruling terminating the parental rights of Ekaterina Burnashkina, the woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby in an airport toilet in Antalya, Turkey.
According to reports from Russian state media citing the court’s press service, the latest appeal filed by the defense was rejected, leaving the previous court decision unchanged.
Baby Was Left In Antalya Airport Toilet
The case dates back to October 2024, when Burnashkina gave birth to a baby girl inside a toilet at Antalya Airport in Turkey.
Investigators said the newborn was left inside the toilet bowl before Burnashkina attempted to board a flight to Moscow together with her mother.
Both women were later detained by authorities at the airport.
The incident sparked widespread attention in Russia and Turkey due to the severity of the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the child’s abandonment.
Court Previously Sentenced Woman To Prison
In February 2025, a court sentenced Burnashkina to 15 years in prison.
However, an appeals court later ordered her release from custody in July 2025 while legal proceedings continued.
In September 2025, Russian authorities formally stripped Burnashkina of her parental rights.
That decision was later upheld by the Moscow Regional Court in November 2025 after an earlier appeal from the defense was dismissed.
Latest Appeal Officially Rejected
The defense subsequently filed a cassation appeal seeking to overturn the parental rights ruling.
The First Cassation Court has now rejected that appeal, officially confirming the legality of the original decision.
The ruling means Burnashkina permanently loses legal parental rights over the child involved in the case.
Further legal proceedings related to the criminal aspects of the case may still continue separately.
