Aeroplan has announced a new strategic partnership with Hertz, expanding its travel rewards ecosystem through a collaboration that also includes Dollar and Thrifty vehicle rental brands.

The agreement introduces new earning opportunities, elite benefits and preferred pricing for Air Canada customers booking rental vehicles.

Aeroplan Expands Beyond Air Travel

Air Canada’s loyalty programme said the partnership reflects its continued strategy to extend member benefits beyond flights and into other areas of the travel experience.

Under the new agreement, Aeroplan members will earn two Aeroplan points per Canadian dollar spent on eligible rentals with Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty.

Scott O’Leary, Vice President of Loyalty and Product at Air Canada, described car rentals as a natural extension of the travel journey.

“Partnering with Hertz is one of the ways we are delivering on the promise we made when we redesigned Aeroplan, providing choice, convenience, and value that extends their loyalty from the air to the road,” O’Leary said.

Elite Members Receive Higher Rewards

Aeroplan Elite members will receive enhanced earning rates when booking with Hertz.

Elite 25K, 35K and 50K members will earn three points per dollar spent, while Elite 75K members will earn four points per dollar.

Super Elite members will receive the highest earning level with five points per dollar spent on Hertz rentals.

The programme will also allow members to accumulate one Status Qualifying Credit for every five Aeroplan points earned through car rentals, helping accelerate qualification toward elite airline status.

Complimentary Hertz Elite Status Added

The partnership additionally includes complimentary status within Hertz Gold Plus Rewards for eligible Aeroplan members and Air Canada credit cardholders.

Aeroplan Elite 25K, 35K and 50K members, along with Aeroplan Core Credit Cardholders, will receive complimentary Hertz Five Star status.

Meanwhile, Elite 75K and Super Elite members, alongside Aeroplan Premium Credit Cardholders, will gain complimentary President’s Circle status.

These benefits are expected to include priority service, vehicle upgrades and additional rental perks.

Preferred Pricing Offered To Air Canada Customers

In addition to loyalty benefits, Air Canada customers booking car rentals through the airline’s website will also receive preferred pricing through the new partnership.

Hertz Executive Vice President Laura Smith said the collaboration is designed to create a more seamless and rewarding travel experience.

“Together, we’re providing premium benefits that will make for a more seamless and rewarding travel experience all around,” Smith said.

The agreement marks another expansion of Aeroplan’s growing network of travel and lifestyle partnerships as competition intensifies within the global loyalty sector.
