Lithuanian Airports has announced the launch of new direct flights between Vilnius and Zurich operated by airBaltic, further strengthening air connectivity between Lithuania and Switzerland.
The new route officially began on May 3, with flights operating twice weekly during May and increasing to three weekly services for the remainder of the summer aviation season.
New Route Strengthens Business And Travel Connectivity
Lithuanian officials said the additional flights will improve flexibility for passengers while strengthening links with one of Europe’s most important financial and aviation centres.
Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications Roderikas Žiobakas said the new service will create more opportunities for business and international travel.
“A wider choice of flights to Zurich means more flexibility for passengers and even more convenient connectivity to one of Europe’s most important financial and aviation centres,” Žiobakas said.
He added that the route will help strengthen Lithuania’s international partnerships while improving access to global destinations through connecting flights.
airBaltic Expands Presence In Lithuania
airBaltic said the Zurich route forms part of the airline’s ongoing expansion strategy in the Lithuanian market.
Vice President of Network Management Mantas Vrubliauskas described Zurich as a major European business and financial hub that will provide passengers with convenient onward connections across Europe and beyond.
“We continue to see strong demand from the Lithuanian market, and this new route underlines our commitment to providing more direct travel options and improving connectivity from Vilnius,” he said.
Zurich Airport serves as Switzerland’s largest airport and an important international hub with connections across Europe, Asia and North America.
Direct flights between Vilnius and Zurich are now offered by two airlines.
Lithuanian Airports Expect Tourism Growth
Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lithuanian Airports, said the expanded Switzerland connectivity is expected to support both business and leisure travel while potentially increasing inbound tourism from Switzerland.
“I believe this new route will also encourage more Swiss tourists to visit our country in the summer,” Bartkus said.
The route launch comes as Vilnius Airport continues to experience strong passenger growth.
During the first quarter of 2026, the airport served more than one million passengers, representing an increase of around 10% compared with the same period last year.
