Artificial intelligence is pushing deeper into the wellness sector, with Perplexity unveiling a suite of health management tools designed to deliver personalized insights based on user data, lab results and daily habits.
The new offering, called Perplexity Health, aims to centralize health information into a single platform, allowing users to better understand their overall well-being and make more informed decisions. The launch reflects a growing trend among major tech players to position AI as a companion for everyday health management.
Despite lingering skepticism – particularly in the United States, where many remain cautious about trusting AI for medical advice – adoption is steadily growing. Users are increasingly turning to AI tools for quick answers, reassurance and deeper insights into their health data.
Perplexity’s latest rollout includes several integrated features tailored to individual needs. A Health Review Agent provides a comprehensive overview of a user’s condition, while a Fitness Coach generates personalized workout plans based on activity levels and goals. A Nutrition Planner creates meal plans that align with both fitness objectives and lab results, and a Sleep and Recovery Coach offers guidance to improve rest and recovery.
Additional tools include a Lab Results Interpreter, which analyzes medical test data and suggests actionable steps, and a Visit Prep Assistant designed to help users prepare for doctor appointments with tailored questions and insights.
To power these features, Perplexity has partnered with Function, enabling users to securely upload biomarker data alongside information from wearable devices. The platform emphasizes privacy, stating that it uses encryption and safeguards aligned with healthcare data standards and does not use personal health data to train its AI models.
The platform also incorporates curated health content, linking users to verified sources based on their interests and past interactions, aiming to combine personalization with transparency.
Perplexity’s move comes amid intensifying competition in the AI health space. Earlier this year, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health, expanding its footprint in wellness through partnerships with companies such as Peloton, MyFitnessPal and WeightWatchers.
As AI-driven health tools become more sophisticated, they are reshaping how individuals interact with their own data – offering convenience and personalization, while also raising ongoing questions about trust, accuracy and data privacy in a rapidly evolving digital health landscape.
