Severe snowfall and strong winds forced Deutsche Bahn to suspend all train services across northern Germany on Sunday, leaving passengers facing widespread delays and cancellations.
The extreme weather disrupted not only rail travel but also bus services in many regions. In some areas, schools were closed as authorities warned of dangerous conditions on roads and public transport networks.
The storm also led to fatalities. In Bavaria, two people were killed in a head-on car collision after one vehicle skidded on snow-covered roads. In Upper Palatinate, a driver died after their car left the road and crashed into a tree, according to German news agency dpa.
Along the North Sea coast in the federal state of Lower Saxony, ferry services were almost entirely suspended. Strong easterly winds made several islands inaccessible, bringing maritime transport in the region to a standstill.
Authorities warned that further disruptions could not be ruled out as severe winter weather continued to affect large parts of the country.
