The Marram Collection is set to open The Kithmore this June, following a £7.5m transformation of the former Ardgowan Hotel in St Andrews.
Located on Playfair Terrace, just moments from the world-famous Old Course, the property has undergone a comprehensive redevelopment including a full refurbishment, a building extension and a complete redesign. Planning permission for the project was granted in May last year.
Once open, The Kithmore will operate as a 44-bedroom luxury hotel with a 60-cover bar and restaurant, complemented by an extended outdoor terrace. The development aims to appeal to golfers, leisure travellers and the local community alike.
The Marram Collection is the hospitality arm of Wirefox, which acquired the site in 2022. The project is expected to create up to 50 new jobs in the local area when the hotel opens.
The Kithmore brand was developed by global hospitality agency Crown Creative, with architectural design led by St Andrews-based practice RKA. Interior design was delivered in collaboration with ICA.
Kathryn McNairn, general manager of The Kithmore, said the name reflects the hotel’s ethos. She explained that it is inspired by the Scots word “kith,” meaning friendship and familiarity, and is intended to signal a warm and welcoming space for visitors and residents. She added that the bar and restaurant will focus on quality local cuisine, offering everything from Scottish breakfasts and casual lunches to an all-day menu of comfort classics and contemporary dishes.
The opening of The Kithmore strengthens The Marram Collection’s growing portfolio, which also includes The Leddie Hotel in East Lothian and The Bushmills Inn in Northern Ireland, as the group continues to invest in distinctive hospitality destinations across the UK and Ireland.
